I guess there is a place for wide-angle lenses in portrait photography. Stunning! And there is also the dramatic lighting...

I like the attitude of this but the lighting is rather harsh and let you down I feel.

Maybe I am wrong about what an environmental portraoit should contain. IMO, this is a guy holding a musical instrument in a non-musical environment (jail? something industrial?) To me, that is not an environmental portrait, it's a portrait with relevant props.

As a musisician's portrait I like it though. John will probably be happy with it.

light is a bit harsh; good POV, focus and color; had preferred to see more of the environment, though, this could be anywhere and doesn't tell much about him.
