Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Pollution (Basic Editing)
Camera: Nikon D300
Lens: Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM for Nikon
Location: Maribyrnong River, Melbourne, Australia
Date: Mar 10, 2008
Aperture: F10
ISO: 200
Shutter: 30 seconds
Galleries: Landscape, Water
Date Uploaded: Mar 9, 2008

THE IMAGE: Well, no matter how traumatic my escapade at Williamstown was, early that fateful morning, I can't stop taking early morning photos. This one is at the local Maribyrnong River, just a couple of kilometres from my house. Helen and I run around this river a few times a week, often early in the morning at dawn. We have often commented about how lovely the light is and how ugly the imposing powerlines are.

I took this on a tripod. This is a 30 second exposure. The foot bridge moved quite a bit while runners ran across, so I had to wait for breaks before I lost the light.

This is the image I was happiest with.

THE EDIT: Just USM, Colour Balance and Noise Reduction.

THE PREDICTION: I am thinking there will be many more clever images than this one...6????

Enzo - wonderful colours on this and a neat take on the theme.

You seem to be getting to grips with that new camera nicely :- )

Nice photo but calling this pollution is a reach.

This is indeed a stunning image... however I am having difficulties in making the link to pollution. You can PM me if you wish, I can always use some enlightenment.

A bit of a stretch for the challenge since this is a rather pristine scene BUT I will take it as the power lines are polluting your photograph ;)

I wouldn't necessarily say the powerlines are ugly, if that is what you are referring to. I think they add a lot of interest to the photo, but I get what you're saying. Very nicely done by the way, the colours are great.

Great image. It's just not totally apparent how pollution is the focus of it.

Pretty, but people build those phone wires there ruins the beauty

Perfect exposure! Great lines leading one across the image. Superb contrast between beauty and those horrible lines that often permeate the most scenic views. 10

Great night shot with beautiful colour. The one thing I don't like is the border because you have a gradient fade to black at the bottom, but a straight black line at the top. Otherwise, good job.

Such an incredible reflection. With the power lines, it shows industry, but i bet on the other side of this water, the scene would be outstanding. Nice dichotomy here.

absolutely gorgeous colors and impressive exposure work. i would have given very high score if there was not so much empty space at the bottom. still i like the picture overall.

Yeah, those powerlines do ruin that otherwise beautiful location. I love the colors and the lighting was captured at the perfect time. The powerlines are ugly they don't make that strong of a pollution shot for me. Great photograph though.

Great colors with amazing varying shads. good use of reflection and refraction upon the water with great shadows.

This photograph is very symetrical (horizontally), but the black border on the top ruins the essence of the photograph.

this is so sad. That is such a beautiful shot, but those power lines kill it! But this is an amazing photo nice job

A very nice photo, though the element of pollution is not as strong

Great long exposure and very nice colors but I suppose the high voltage cables are a scare on the environment but I would have preferred to have seen more pollution.
