Just trying out the macro lens again - been a while. This is a heating pad control unit, which has been in much use heating up our sick bird over the last week.

Excellent focus and very, very impressed with the lack of ISO noise on a long exposure ISO 800 image! Are you using the High ISO noise reduction/Long Exp NR that's built in or are you using a neat image software? (Curious minds who use the same Nik and Lens want to know!)

I don't recall if I used any NR software on this, but if I did it would be NeatImage. THanks!

Welcome to the side challenge Steve. Good start. With an 18-200 zoom make sure you're at 200 to get the closest in, since the specs say it will focus to 20 inches throughout the range. A couple of cheap Home Depot halogen floodlights would help lighting. That would let you use a higher aperture and get more of the control pad in focus. Looking forward to upcoming days shots.

I like the angle of the shot but like to see this with a tad more lighting to boost the image.

The lighting doesnt look too good - was it perhaps just room lights?

Thermostat for the electric blanket or the heating pad. Looks a bit chilly in the off position. Good start.

Well you have to start somewhere. Household objects are a good start. The composition seems fine. Could play with rotating to see what you get. The lighting seems a little flat but you can tweak that in some photo editing software.
