An out take from the macro side challenge.

I decided to convert to B&W and see how it goes. The high contrast processing is intentional.

I like the nicely in focus flower combined with patterns made by the just-out-of-focus-enough leaves. Nice tones as well.

Very pretty. I like the brightness of the photo - it's like the first day of sunshine brightening up a room. I love seeing the lines on the petals. Good use of selective focus too.

Edit to fix spelling lol

Good composition - I agree with below that when someone thinks a flower, the first thing it comes to mind is strong colors which overwhelms composition, texture and feel of the image.

This is a well presented shot. You've isolated the tulip bud well, from the rest of the plant using DOF.

Such beauty from a b/w. You did well.

I think when you view a flower in black and white, you're much more apt to see the textures, and other detail of the flower. Sometimes the color overwhelms a photo like this, and you miss a lot. This is a striking image.

Tulips make such beautiful black and white photos. They are my favorite flower, and I love how you have positioned and captured this one.

Am sure using the word 'classic' doesn't detract from this image Sarah. We have all seen shots similar to this however this stands out as the composition, dof, exposure and colour (ok black and white) are all exceptional.

btw, I prefer this crop to the original and feel B&W turns it from a good Tulip shot to a great one!

i like the high contrast. i think the dof is a nice change from the norm (having the whole flower in focus).

Very beautiful, nice dof and focus but the lighting is what takes this to the top, nicely done!

I'm enjoying the flowers in B&W - this is no exception. Lovely light and DOF.

This works very well in B&W. Sharp where it needs to be and soft where it needs to be. Nice job.

Textures, detail, & dof on the flower are really good. I like the lighting too.
