I'm slowly working my way thru the challenge. So hopefully you've joined in and done some more!

Interesting use of light and shadow. I'm fascinated by how it emphasizes the details on your back. Maybe someone said this already, but I would like to see one of two things: either some kind of backlighting to help you pull away from the background (since we can already see some of the foreground), or some lighting on your right side to balance things out. I think if you wanted to look like you were emerging from the darkness, then we should not be able to see the stuff in front of you.

Most impressive are the hands, the fingers. You draw with your body. Light is good. The greater obscurity on one side is balanced by the lighted shoulder on the other, IMO. (If you were to do anything to this amazing shot, I would think about that faint triangle of light on the right forearm, and just maybe a little "arranging" of the lint on the floor - I don't mind it because it gives texture. I AM leary of all the centering advice - it would throw off the balance of light in dark in the picture; besides I think you had a sense for doing it the way you did).

Nice play with the lights. That stuff on the floor in front of you is a bit distracting. Also, I find your right knee a bit distracting or maybe straighten your right shoulder, either both in shadow or both in light.

Welcome, first i really like the lighting and the shadows that play on your body, nicely done. As for the compositon I agree that you should center it and square crop it, centered compsoiton can be very effective and as it stands now it just seems off centered. If you have more room maybe a landscape crop with negative space the the left.

Hi Michael and yes, post at will and, if you want you can play catch up (we all missed the first 3 weeks of the year anyway).

I think the comments on the centre issue are because its so close to being centred already? I don't know how much room you have got but maybe if you left more black you could play with composition post shot? Brave man posting this ;) and sadly my attempt was in a challenge so its there for ever! A couple of niggles on a good shot, the lint? in front of you can be cleaned up easily, I'd like to see your right shoulder lined up with your left and maybe a little more light (looks like you have the important bits covered lol).

Just seen your other sp's, thought of changing your username to rubberman ;)

Very cool. Off-the-wall. Just a little bit more contrast would put it over the top. Well done.

I really like the way the light is reflected off of the back. This makes a very interesting black and white.

Love the pose. Love the finger pose too. Great lighting, makes the shadows on your back stand out.

Thank you very much for your comments.

I used a 500 Watt constant light pointed at my shoulder. On the other side I have a sheet of white felt to act as a reflector. These are temporary items while I decide what would be the best first lighting purchase. Strobes or constants... Right now I'm thinking strobes, but I'm having fun with the constant light that I have borrowed. I'm sure I'll end up with both.

As for the shutter speed I have the camera on a tripod (obviously). I prefocused where I would be and switched to manual focus so it would stay put. Set the timer and hop over to where I should be before the camera snaps.

Do you really think I should center? Just seems compositionally incorrect to center my body in the frame. I may give it a shot and post this one again.

Nice job, Michael! Oh and yes. . .you can contribute any time you like. Consider yourselves officially an invitee :)

So what kind of lighting did you use? I notice you only had a 1/50 shutter speed, so you really got it amazingly sharp for such a slow shutter.

I think maybe I do agree with Chris on his one point about on this one, it may be more dramatic with a centered, slightly (but not too much) more cropped.
