Lol - Dog's have such great noses with amazing shape and textures. But even with the shallow DoF the bright eyes and happiness shine through this picture. Handsome looking doggy, lovely colours.

I think it is risky not to have the eyes in focus in a portrait shot, but this nevertheless has a lovely feel to it and you may have got away with it because of such a good focus on the nose. The longer I look, the more I like it

The title helps, but still I wouldn't want a portrait of me with only my nose in focus. So, this make me think this is a poor pet portrait. Sorry.
