This is a friend of mine that I had asked to model for me just for fun and practice. It was a beautiful fall day. Most of the shots actually look better in color, but I thought I could get away with converting this one over to B&W.

Wholly endearing expression. Hands and tree bark simply reinforce the genuine quality of this wonderful photo. Would I feel the latter so much if it were in colour?

Very nice. I like the textures of the tree and the contraqst between that and your friend. The tomes are right on the money abd I like the shine in the hair and actually wish it lit more of her hair. Your friend looks comfortable and like she is having a good time. I bet she poses again.

I like the composition and the pose seems nice to me. The backlighting is nice though I would boost the brightness in her face as it seems a bit dim as it is now and would really pop off the dark tree. Nice portrait of a pretty model.

ooh, Becka is a tree hugger lol.

Lovely relaxed facial expressions by her and often I find unless its a professional model your best shooting friends who are happy with you the photographer and trust you and your camera. I was quite happy with the hand placement then I read the comments and still am (back to the tree hugging). Just a little more contrast in the face would make this better imho - nice one :)

A pleasing composition and nice use of the tree's texture as supporting textured background. Your friend has a great smile - makes for a very engaging portrait.

I like the strong contrast between here femininity and the rough texture of the tree.

Yes, she looks very comfortable in front of the camera. I think black and white works really well with this particular photo because of the texture and color of the tree bark contrasting with her skin tones. It seems like that might be less dramatic in color.

She probably loves this photo :)

Her expression looks very natural and I really like the lighting, especially the bright "hair" light from behind. Some people will probably find it distracting, but I actually quite like it.

I love the fact that you have included the carvings in the tree for a little extra added dimension and intrigue.

The hand placement seems unnatural to me especially the lower hand so maybe a less cropped version would look better (so that her whole elbow is in the shot thus connecting her hand to her body).

The lighting is good, but you might consider dodging some on her face and burning the tree some to create more contrast and pop.
