Steve, the idea is solid. Try adding another light or two to the sides to soften the shadows. Also try putting tissue over the flash or lamps (I use the kind you put in gift bags) to diffuse the light.

Also, it's worth learning the clone tool if your software supports it - the hairs on the bottom are distracting.

I like the idea here a lot, and the title is great, as is the curve presented by the dominoes. I suspect technical issues brought you down - the white balance looks a little off here - there's a bit of a yellowish cast to the dominoes and a gray cast to background. There are also a few bits of dust/hair that you maybe could have cloned from the background, since this is advanced. Mainly, though, I think the shadows may have been problematic to some viewers (including myself). I did not think they were deliberately used to enhance the photo (though of course I could be wrong on this), but instead the result of uneven lighting (I'm guessing you used flash here). If you have a light tent, this would be an interesting study to try again, as you could eliminate the shadows. Anyway, just my .02, hope it is helpful!

i like the choice for depth of field and nice light reflection in the black domino holes. I would have cleaned up the fibers visible on the surface beneath. What are the metal things in those domino's, ive never seen them with those.

not bad. Dust on the background should be cloned out

Hi. I really want to say something constructive here... :-)

I can understand the allure of using dominoes as the subject as they fit the B/W theme and can be easily positioned.

What's hurting this is the presentation is very static and there's no sizzle in the POV. The lighting is also quite harsh resulting in heavy shadows. Maybe something from a lower angle, a longer background to work with, and some softer/reflected lighting?

Just some thoughts...and JMO of course. :-) Good luck in the challenge.

It needs to be more sharp and more contrast. Could have been a great shot.

Your picture is nice and sharp. The shadows created by the flash are a bit harsh though.
