While you didn't exactly go in the direction of the originator's intent (i.e.he wanted a blurry shot given his notes), I can't argue that this isn't much better. Actually way way better. Good job.

Man, it is pretty hard to turn plain rice into an interesting photo. But you have nice focus and good b/w conversion, so decent score.

yes, this looks much more like rice. It would have been cool to see a little bowl of rice or something like that; however, I understand that you probably didn't want to change too much from the original for fear of dnmc. I like the b&w - adds interest and takes the yuck part out of it
