A chance encounter shooting pictures of the Rideau canal and buildings in downtown Ottawa. Ironically, I was looking for pictures for the leading lines challenge.

My thanks go out to the few that got it.

To everyone else... OK, now I'm amazed. Everything you complained about I did on purpose. I took the picture with the sun shining so dramatically so that it would look like the sky was opening up. I wanted the rays of light and yes I did have on a lens hood. I puposely lessened the contrast to give it a more spiritual appeal. I liked the street light since it amplified the idea that the church is in the city.

Because of lack on contrast, this photograph is not as strong and seems washed out.

The sun is very distracting in the picture, very noticable hot spot. The beam of light in the picture is also very distracting, it doesnt really add to the picture at all.

It took me a while but I finally realized what you were going for i.e the rays from heaven over the church and all. But here is a case where in an effort to meet the challenge category, composition is given a back seat. 1st the light pole and branches are a big distraction and add nothing. (different crop perhaps?) 2nd the light from above is not strong enough to make a statement and too strong that it washes out the buildings. (Shadows/Highlights or more contrast?) Lovely sentiment. Keep working at it! Good luck.

I think this shot would have been more effective if the sky wasnt blown out. Try using a filter on your lens.

Nice idea, looks like a good lens too, only a touch of flare

a good pic, but the light is a little distracting.

All I see on high is an over-exposed cloud and a lens flair. I'm sure this works for people who believe in messages from above but it doesn't work for me. Sorry.

Need to be more colorful, in my opinion... and the light fixture competes for the lightsource in the photo.. .which kind of negates your purpose, IMHO.

I understand the ray of light was on the camera, not in the air. But if it was a different perspcetive or angle could help a lot. But how you have it shot is vey nice good job.

I think this shot might have benefitted from a lens hood. I mean, I like the way the beam of sun light is coming down on to the church, but the sun flare is just washing to photo out and not doing it justice.

To busy and washed out.

i wish the street light wasn't there. it detracts from the whole.
