 I was going for an old-postcard look. Perhaps one that got lost on the beach and was scratched up by sand and stained by wet seaweed.

Used an older beach photo - from September 2007. It always had too much stuff in it to use for anything, so overlays it is.

Used flipped and rotated with 68% grain merge.

Then layered with
which I lightened a lot with levels and gave a heavy dose of cyan with color balance. I used it soft light blending mode at 70% opacity.

And finally, I used
in darken only mode - 90%.

I erased off of the clouds a bit, but then went back and painted them faintly white. Erased the first layer off of the SUV, too.

Actually I think the original image is really interesting! I do like the treatment a lot, the water and grunge work wonderfully! Not sure I'm too fond of the big blue blotch in the sky, seems to try to draw my attention away from the wonderful beach scene :-)

I really like the original image here and I'd be interested in seeing other versions with the overlays dominating somewhat less. I like what you've done with the texture, but I think that the underlying image gets a bit overwhelmed by it. The small figures on the beach are great.
