 So, this is a long story but really leads up to what this picture is about. Sorry it is long, I tend to be a typer.

Today we needed to go get Tay from my mom's house, she lives about 2 hours north of us. We get a call from my dad this morning and he says that the roads are bad. Ken and I are thinking the roads can't be too bad because the radar didn't look terrible or anything. We head out of the house with intentions of taking Cartesia to a museum before heading to my mom's house.

Once on the expressway we drove for about 25 miles and it began to snow pretty good and visibility was slowly getting worse. Further in our journey the visibility continues to worsen, can't see the road in front of us in spots, and the roads become extremely iced over. A normal two hour journey turns into a 3 hour 45 minute journey.

We passed a total of 9 spin outs and accidents along the way. Most of the accidents had multiple cars involved. The picture I decided to show today is one of an overturned semi-truck. I have more pictures of this accident but decided on this one. You can see a bit of the semi-truck if you look between the emergency vehicles.

The return home was just as bad as far as roads and visibility went, 4 hours 15 minutes to get home (usually 2 hours). We only passed a couple of accidents on the way home.

Ken drove it all, he is so wonderful! I just stayed awake to be an extra set of eyes.

You really captured the essence of the long trip here. Your processing makes the whole thing seem surreal, and that's how it was.

this is excellent PP..and so cool you had the cam with you! it would have been the only thing to keep me from freakng out on a drive like the one you describe! i hate when the roads get like that and the traffic seemingly is totally out of control..

Winter weather driving can be difficult at times. I love the shot and the processing. You wrote a very descriptive story as well. I happen to enjoy driving in bad weather, no matter what the conditions are. Icy roads are some of my least favorite however.

Nice message in this image. I have one question about the editing, as I see it a lot in images on DPC. The image has a bit of a surreal feel in the colors. Its as if the color is more computer generated in the image versus the real color. The result is some portions of the image appear to pop in a 3-d sort of way and the rest of the image is very two dimensional.

I have not decided if I like the process or not. Just wanted to know more about it.

I remember trips like that from the "good ol' days" in Germany. Harrowing. Like I said to Ken - glad you made it home safely. And how good of you to stay awake - I probably would have fallen into shock sleep.

Oh that really doesn't look much fun. I must say, that is one thing I don't miss living over here in Finland. Not to say we don't get bad weather, but I don't have a car any more, so no need to drive in it! Good shot though, I think the Lucis filter works well for this. Hope the weather has improved a bit today.

What a harrowing trip through the snow. It's bad enough here when it's raining and the roads are slippery, but this looks diabolical. Good onya Ken for getting the girls home safe.
