I asked Mary to stand in front of me (in front of an open northeast facing door at 3:00 in the afternoon) so I could take her picture...she loves the camera!

I did some pretty heavy processing on this one...way more than I'm used to. Opened the RAW file in ACR and set white balance, etc...

In photoshop I did my basic stuff..curves adjustment layer and quick "capture sharpening" on the whole thing. I then sharpened a little extra on her eyes in a separate layer.

I also created a duplicate layer and applied a "dust and scratches" filter followed by a gausian blur and added noise on this layer. That is the layer I used for her skin. I then layer masked it and painted back her "new skin" which didn't really need much work, but I wanted to play around with it. Anyway, I also heavily burned the background as it was gray to start with. Oh and I also darkened her eyebrows a bit and whitened her eyes.

Like I said, way more processing that I normally do, but it was kinda interesting to do.

a beautiful young girl with great and expressive eyes - i just wonder if the eyes are a bit too sharp for my taste - but i can see it is more than you normally do - so a good image to practice on...

Yes, plenty of pp'ing here Jason! I agree with most of the previous comments but a tad worried about her left and and reading your steps I think you oversharpened her left eye and not sure the black eyebrow suits a blond?

Looks like Mary will become a full time model for you, I hope you pay her well my good man ;)

I love the pose - so very engaging. The lighting is awesome. In contrast to what others have said, I do like the hair. It really pops out and was the first thing to catch my attention. My only nitpick is her left eyelid. That part looks a little oversharpened. Maybe you could smooth it out with a soften brush. In all, very cute photo!

This is a wonderful portrait, and I like that half-smile she has going on there. The negative space works well, and helps isolate her. Just nitpicking, but some of the lighter strands of hair look a bit oversharpened to me.

Normally by the time I do that much processing, I've got a really screwed up photo. This one is beautifully processed. I especially like the crop, and the use of negative space on the right side. You really nailed her eyes (figuratively speaking, of course!).

I don't understand anything you said about the processing (well, some, but certainly not all) but I really like what you ended up with. I love her smile/smirk! The conversion looks very good, too.

I really like the casual feel of this shot. The composition is quite pleasing, yet very interesting. Nice, soft shadows as well.

Gorgeous look, good framing. I'm not quite sure about the effect that painting created on her hand.. something is bothering me there.. anyway excellent portrait.

Engage the viewer, is what I learn from your photo. The framing, the composition, the processing, all aimed in one direction, to attract and engage the viewer. She is a fine model and thank you for including all the processing notes. I will give this s shot.
