Whitby Abbey in silhouette. I had to wait ages for the gulls to be where I wanted them! Shot at about 30 degrees to the sun, exposing for the sky - I had hoped for a few highlights on the side of the abbey walls, but at least I got the texture of the grass at the front, which I feel gives some structure.

The line of grass on top of the wall in front of the Abbey makes this photo.

very cool sihoutte of this Abbey - the Rose window is a really nice touch. i really had to look to figure out the gulls - they almost seemed like dust specks first time viewing...

I like the effect you have created here, however, I would perhaps have liked to see a little bit of detail in the Abbey itself.

The light on the top of the grass and the birds turn what might have been a pretty boring shot into a nice study. Not my favourite style but certainly black and White ;)

A wonderful way to look at the abbey and I suspect it would be more wonderful at larger resolution.

This is cool. I like the strong contrasts. From the thumbnail, I thought it might have been a haunted house, especially with the birds flying around.

You teach me that simple shapes often constitute modern icons. Limited as the detail is, the scene is revealed in depth and the mind completes the picture.

Cool shot and I liek the harsh lighting you used. i do feel that it has a bit of a tilt to it that distracts a bit but I do love teh glint of light on the grass.

Cool building. Yes it is nice to see the texture in the grass and the angle of the land really works here. The birds bring a realistic feel to the building that lacks some depth. This would be cool cut into different pictures and framed on your wall in sections. (as seen on hgtv) hehehe..

Your patience paid off, because those gulls add a lot of the picture. The silhouette works well, although it would be nice to see a small bit of detail in the deep shadows.

A very strong silhouette shot, which suits this old structure quite nicely. I'm pleased you waited for the gulls as these type of shots need something to show "life" in my opinion. Nice choices with this.

I'm glad the grass shows, it defines the structure. Uncooperative birds, heh? I'm glad you included them too in the shot. Nice silhouette.

Very neat shot! I love the angle of the foreground grass and it definately helps the composition to get that little bit of texture into it. I'm glad you waited for the gulls too as they really really make this shot even more interesting. Well done!
