I shot this at a Family Night Dinner Theater at my church (Rocky Mountain Calvary Chapel). Shot with a Canon 10D, 70-200 F4.0L, Sigma Super DG 500 flash, with Lumiquest Softbox flash attachment. Not too much in post editing... cloned out a few distractions, adjusted levels, resized, USM, blur skin tones, and submit! Oh yeah, I also lightened the eyes.

Greetings from the Critique Club...

Hi Smellyfish...

This is a cute shot, but it doesn't seem to hold any particular value to me as a viewer. There are no glaring flaws in it anywhere that really detract from the image. The shadow under the chin is the only thing that particularly catches my attention. It creates a sharp contrast that is eye-catching and draws my attention away from the eyes.

Portrait work that is posted to a challenge like this really needs to have some element(s) that snare the viewer's imagination in some way, since we are not acquainted with the subject.

Very nice shot! Love the color you captured in her eyes... I was really drawn to that.

Cute for sure. Nice spontanious photo. Lovely eye detail. The only thing I would suggest fixing is the slight glare on her forehead (yellowish round spot), just by brushing very slightly over it with semitransparent soft brush. Also, it could have been a bit nicer in vertical format, since her hair is up so nicely. But overall nice photo.

very nice...the colors are nice and vivid....the focus is sharp...

Indeed! Good lighting and the colors of hair and skin, as well as the red fabrics in such small amounts, really good together. - 8

I agree she is cute, no, really a little angel, beautiful photo of a beautiful subject. Keep up the nice work.

Sold me! Why the unproportional crop though? BOL

Good composition, nicely framed against dark backgroudn makign subject prominent. Image suggests that flash was used though (?) which results in a rather unattracrtive highlight on forehead.

Definitely cute, but the flash appears a bit harsh.

cute is right! :)
making a vertical crop out of this would accentuate her expression, and lead the viewer to her eyes and keep them there. a bit of a glare from the lights, but not too bad.

Man... I love the hair on this girl. THis image is one of the better children portraits in this challenge. I think you're going to do really well. I lvoe her expression - like she's up to something. I also like the lighting and the fact that the background is black - it really strengthens the overall image. Good luck!

Lighting and focus are done very well.

Nice entry.

for some weird reason this is reminding me of a Björk album cover or something! I think it is the hair and lighting.

Bright eyed and bushy tailed - captures the essence of this little girl very well. A square, tight crop, even thought you would lose some hair, would have been OK too.

Cute!
