The title here represents two thing.
We had to go to the mall today to get rings and jewelry inspected to maintain the warranty. It was a hassle because it's out of the way and the mall was Christmastime busy. It took much longer than expected but at least I had the opportunity to take a few quick pictures.
The second hassle occurred when I stopped to take a few closeup pictures of a flower. When I went to change back to the Sigma, Mr. Security asks me if I work for the bridal store. I tell him I don't and he said, "You can't do that." I tell him I won't take any more pictures but then he tells me to wait for his supervisor, who wants to talk to me. Yahoo.
As I'm waiting, I notice that just beyond the flower is the bridal store. So the supervisor comes over and tells me that I can't take pictures of store fronts. Several times. I assure him that I wouldn't. He walks away and Mr. Security says something again essentially accusing me of lying about taking pictures of the bridal store. I point to the flower and say I was taking a picture of it. "A picture of THAT??", he rudely says. "Yes, THAT." I take the camera off my neck, and bring up the picture, which clearly shows I captured only the flower. "Oh." He then walks away. So I got a bit of satisfaction proving that I wasn't lying, but he's still a jerk.
I didn't have my tripod with me (otherwise I might have spent time in the mall prison, being whipped with Auntie Annie's pretzels, forced to listen to bland Muzak, and threatened with waterboarding by Orange Julius, while Mr. S pretends to be the cop he'll never be...) I braced the camera on railing from the second level and bracketed 3 shots at -2, 0, +2. I combined the 3 raw but it didn't look right so I converted from raw, color corrected and combined again. I then tonemapped and did adjustments in PS. It was OK but when I saw the HDR file it looked better. So I brought that up in CS3, converted to 16 bit and it looked much sharper and natural, even if there are a few blown spots. Then:
rotate/crop
nik Efex remove color cast
nik Efex high key filter
hue/sat
levels
resize/sharpen in Genuine Fractals
So besides my "adventure", I learned that removing color cast before HDR can make a huge difference, and tonemapping isn't always the best way to go. |

| I like the brightness and muted colors here as well as the movement. What a hassle with Mr. pain in the S. |

| I feel like I am really in the mall. The colors are wonderful, very representative of the mall in person. I like the motion blur on the carousel and the ghosting of the people. It shows just how busy the mall is. It is good that you stood up to that goof ball and that you were comfortable enough to take your camera into the mall! |

That is absolutely hilarious!! Thanks for sharing. I loathe the mall. I call it the "maul". All the more can I appreciate your plight - still laughing about it!
Wonderful photo - it has an uber-modern look to it - so slick and clean. The motion blur on the carousel (a carousel in the mall??) is excellent. Colors and light are stunning. |

Sorry to hear about your trials and tribulations! I had police called on me once when I lived in New York a couple years back. I was with a female friend in a field overlooking the city of Albany at night taking pictures of the planets over the city. Well, evidently somebody thought we were terrorists or something, so we got grilled by the police. At least they were polite!
I love the motion of the merry-go-ground, and the ghost images of people created by the multiple images. This is a very cool mall shot! |

Terrorists will be the death of photographers! I would talk to a good lawyer, who might teach those weekend power brokers how much power they don't have.
As to the image, I feel like I could walk right into the scene and be a part of it. To me, that is the ultimate compliment. Bravo! |
