I went on a short weekend trip to Paris with Henný this last weekend, arrived friday evening and left monday morning. The trip was a birthday present from her and It was great to get away for a couple of days, just the two of us, we just took it easy and explored the city. I didn´t really shoot this image with this challenge in mind but I was aware of it at the time, this is however a shot taken for myself and not the challenge, I absolutely did not go out of my way to take an architecture shot for DPC.

However, like I said, I was aware of the challenge and since I have never ever submitted a shot taken outside of Iceland to a DPChallenge before (and I have been on this site for more than 3 years now) I thought it was about time so I browsed the photos I took in the trip and I liked this one the best for this challenge, I really like composition, colors and the reflection in the water. I didn´t have a tripod with me so that explains the funky camera settings but still, I like the 2.8 aperture as it leads to some vignetting that I of course can´t add in basic editing. However, the ideal settings would have been lower iso and a slightly smaller aperture, even though that would lead to the people in the shot being motion blurred.

As for processing, first raw conversion in C1 where I set WB, contrast and exposure. Then I used shadow/highlights several times, fading each time to get the results more subtle and gradual. I then used Selective color to pretty much tweaked every slider, red, yellow, magenta, cyan, blue, white, neutral and black, this increased the sunset warm tones that were already there to begin with. Then I used curves for contrast and finally sharpened and added frame after resizing. Would have wanted to correct the wide angle distortion but of course you can´t in Basic editing.

If ANYONE guesses that this is my shot during voting, I swear I´ll eat my hat, bread butter and wool.

Thx but this is far from my first photo taken abroad, just usually when I travel I don´t give a hoot about DPC challenges

HAHA nobody would have guessed this was yours, although imo the colors and the processing are quite "larus-esque"
congrats on your first shot taken abroad (yes, there really IS a world outside that little island you live on!), hope you had a good time in paris :)

The tilt doesn't quite work for me ...

Impressive architecture, I like the reflections. The colour might be a bit too orange for my tastes.

A little to harsh and over-contrasted to my taste.

love the tones and reflection - but the wonky look does not sit well here with me

This is amazing! I've seen the same viewpoint before, but never like this. The water, clarity, the light....wow!

Great lighting and composition with the reflection of the central tower in the point of the reflecting pool.
