Challenge: Off-Screen Expectation (Basic Editing I)

I once photgraphed a Civil War re enactment. One of my shots was a head on shot of a canon with the gun crew. I realized it was not the best place to be standing. The canon was loaded. Thought I'd re create the experience with a lit fuse for emphasis!

Camera was set on sharp, contrast was at 1. Got as close as I could without going to macro because I wanted to emphasize looking down the barrel. With camera on a tripod, adjusted the fuse to the blinking timer from test shots. . . then lit the fuse and shot!!!

Cropped and adjusted for color in Photoshop, adjusted brightness and contrast a tinge more, adjusted size for the web, then sharpened the final image.

It is not the off-screen expectation but in the screen! Scary, really :-)))

Great photo, I just can't figure out what the off-screen expectation might be.

I love that you used the 'frame' ot the front instead of one of the four sides. Excellent!

I really like this shot but the challenge was to imply something exciting, frightening, REALLY COOL, yummy, tempting, or otherwise compelling somewhere past the edge of the image. You have created the opposite...

Not so much an "off screen expectation" as an ON screen expectation isn't it?. Photographically well done but doesnt meet the challenge for me, sorry.

Technically impressive, but I don't agree that this fulfills the criteria of the challenge.

Your idea is wonderful, and you have done well with the symmetry. Your focal plane is well placed, and I like that you have a relatively narrow depth of field. If I had to complain about something, I would have liked to see just a little more of the fuse fire at the top. Regardless, 10 from me.
