I like this, Karen. The lack of sharp focus makes it more about shapes and emotions than the specifics of the actual subject. It just has a nice, graphic feel to it.

I just noticed that this finished 1 place in front of mine! I think one problem with the shot (and it is a lovely shot!) is the in focus leaf tips kinda take the viewer away from the berries. The shallow DOF works fine for me, but only if there aren't random other spots in focus...

This shot strikes me right away as "elegant" and didn't even come across as IR until I read that from your comments. Everyone seems a little stumped as to how to help on this one. I can't really say I can help either. Perhaps this is because the issue is with your composition, yet the subject itself is very difficult to compose and no one can really visualize how to adjust your camera position. My suggestion is to go back to the plant and move around your camera until you find a nice composition that makes a lot of leading lines and diagonals...this should produce a similar shot that will speak more strongly to viewers.

I hope this helps.

As I'd commented on some of your other IR shots, I usually don't care for IR, but I like what you're doing with it and the fact it doesn't scream IR. It's very subtle, very quiet, and has a sort of ethereal feel to it. This is a lovely study of shapes, curves, light. Very well titled, too!

For each of these photos I've commented on, I've loaded the photo and tried to guess the score. 9 out of 10 times I'm pretty much spot on, but here I was miles out. I just don't understand the score. The IR is subtle and the conversion superb. The DoF is done to absolute perfection. And it really is dance-like. Somehow. Wonderful shot and I'd just ignore the voters!

Oooh how much fun are you going to have with an IR camera? I don't know much about what a picture looks like straight from the camera but I wanted to say that on my screen, this one looks like it has a hint of reddish-purplish color. This is interesting with the specks of dark bulbs. I've seen some really cool plant shots done with IR so I look forward to seeing what you are going to do!

Oh, Karen, I love this image. I haven't a clue what the problem it. You got a favorite too. I think without realizing it, Xuko has told you why it didn't score as high as I think it deserved. There are probably a lot of voters who feel the same way he does.

Dang, that's pretty. So delicate and interesting. Love, love, love the tones. It has an old-time feel to it, too. You were truly robbed.

I'm not in your group, and you already know what I think of this, but I have to say it anyway. It sings to me when I see it, a lovely melody, without a hint of discordance, without a hint of tonal flaws. It just sings, and I love its song.

Karen,

You signed up in the forum and I am in your group, however I don't feel I can do the piece justice commenting on it. I'm not an infrared fan and your shot is just not doing anything for me. I've looked over it for quite some time and I don't have anything to say that could help you. I have looked thru you portfollio and you have some really wonderful work there. You have a really good eye and I think you make a good photographer. Sorry I can't help with this specific shot....keep shooting and good luck. X

I like how soft this feels, despite it being sharp where it's meant to be... I just realised it's an infrared, and I think it works well! Makes it feel high-key, without blowing anything out :)

Very pretty, delicate, great DOF. There is some oddness going on from the infrared that I think hurt your score.

This shot was both delicate and elegant. I really like it and think it would make an absolutely gorgeous print!

Lovely image. I would not have guessed it to be infared.

To please the crowds perhaps a black frame?

But why would you want to please them - your work is LOVELY!
