This is a new house that's being built on the Columbia River about an hour from my house. If only the people knew how polluted the river has become they would not build anywhere near it.

Pesticide runoff from apple orchards for starters, gold mining from up river, etc...it's still a pretty site though.

darlene .. this is just beautiful ..
the most gorgeous reflections .. and the colours are amazing ..
using that lens i'd be interested to know how zoomed in you were coz i'm thinking the wide angle of 17mm could'v taken in more of the mountain ..??? ..
i'm probably totally wrong .. coz you can only zoom to 40mm .. it looked a lot more tho . .
could'v gone well in the free study .. ??

ahha .. i just read your comments down below .. a drive by shooting .. incredibly good considering .. i've done a bit'v driving and taking photographs at the same time ..
in the first side i went in, the 'where you live' in feb this year, it was rife .. we were going to start a club lol lol .. :)
in my 'where you live' collection my day 6, downtown camden was a drive by shooting .. i was the passenger in that one ..
then day 27 was a combo of taking a photograph at 100km/hr and another one when i was stopped at the shops about 5 minutes down the road .. i put them both together to make one image ..
then the last day, day 30, were all drive by shootings .. i only stopped for the eerie bridge scene ..
must finish this incredibly long comment .. there's thunder coming .. have to pull out all the electrical leads to my computer .. :)

SPOKANE -- It's not often the United States serves as a dumping ground for a foreign factory, but that is happening in the remote northeast corner of Washington. The Environmental Protection Agency is trying to force a Canadian company to clean up decades of toxic smelter wastes that have flowed down the Columbia River into Lake Roosevelt in the United States.

The metals flow down the river into Lake Roosevelt. The reservoir is a national recreation area used by 1 million boaters, swimmers and fishers each year. (this same water ends up in the reservoir 10 miles from this image)

Smelter operations have dumped an estimated 10 million to 20 million tons of slag into the river. Slag is a smelting byproduct that contains lead, arsenic and mercury.

For starters....then add in apple pesticides, herbicides and then go on down river to Hanford...oh boy...

Sorry you can't see the hilltops...I took this image going 50 mph. I held the camera with my right hand and clicked after hearing the auto focus lock into place.

Once again, I'm a good driver and never put anyone in harm's way. There aren't many places to pull over or I would.

I got my username from the road I lived on for 9 years! I lived beside Twisp River and you could hear the roar of the river, it sounded like a freeway it was so loud.

I love the way that you've cut off the top of the hills in the upper part of the frame, yet they are visible in the reflections. In my mind's eye, the hills are much, much higher.

This is a beautiful scene. Too bad about all the pollution. No wonder I am allergic to apples with all the pesticides on them in the orchards. Love the colors an the reflection.

It's a beautiful scene. Darned shame the river is polluted, but you'd certainly never guess from this.

Beautiful panorama. Is the proximity to this lovely river how you got your username?

Beautiful nonetheless, as long as you don't fancy a swim.

You capture some very nice reflections here!
