For folks who questioned this picture (is the bird stuffed?) .. it was not. Very live and very active. Taken at the Wild Animal Park in San Diego with a 450 mm lens on a very bright day from a distance of about 60 feet

Great capture. This bird definitely has his(her) eye on something off camera. Good luck! |

What a great picture. It is beautiful, so clear and well composed. It also really conveys off-screen expectation very well. I'd love to see what this hawk is after! |

brilliant shot. Creat focus from what must have been an extremely difficult shot to capture. great work. |

I think this would have had more impact if you had cropped off the stand. If it had looked as though it were flying I'd have rated it higher. 8. |

The only problem I have with this is the eye which is where I'm drawn to...and unfortunately it isn't as clear as it could be...nice go though. |

A tad more contrast and ya got a ribbon. I like the membrane showing over the eye. |

Beautiful raptor. Too bad about the Basic Editing rules. I'm sure you wanted to edit the reflection in the eye. |

Would like to hear how/where you shot this? My initial thought is it is not in the wild and may not be flying? My favourite shot of the challenge Great feeling of the birds power and concentration on the 'off screen' prey. Mouse, rabbit or maybe even something bigger? |

Good idea. I would have like to see the eye more closeup (or more croping) and at closer angel and the eye has to be pinsharp, the rest doesent matter. Lilte more colorsaturation, probably not more contrast since the burned out background. Maybe B/W |

Nice shot. And it looks like it is focusing in on something it is about to grab. |

I get a sense of a stuffed and hung bird here, not of one that is focused elsewhere |

Too bad the feet look like they are standing on something, cropped differently this could be a ribbon winner. |

Absolutely fantastic. I think I might have cropped out some of his feet, so it looked like he was actually flying, but I love the determined look. 10. |
