I had waaayyyy too much time on my hands today, so I finally did something I've been wanting to do for ages -- I turned my 40D into a pinhole camera. I went strictly lo-tech, and taped a piece of aluminum foil over the place where the lens goes, and made a tiny hole with the smallest needle I could find. This was taken with the ISO set at 400 and a 60 second exposure. I'm not sure what I proved, but I got something out of my system -- for the time being, at least.

I also learned that I have some pretty serious dust on my sensor which doesn't show up when I use a lens. I cloned out a lot of it, but then convinced myself that some of that dust "goes with" the feel of this shot.

FWIW, that's a shot of some stuff on my sideboard.

I've often thought of doing this, but it ended at that...thought. Good to see someone else do it.

While the result is perhaps not the best photograph ever taken, the journey there was one full of interest and amusement, I'm sure. I will definitely have to have a go at this sort of thing now.

I've been wanting to try this, too! I like your golden colors along with the silver and brass. Pretty shapes.

That is very, very nice. I need to learn more about this. I wonder if you could get a little more depth of field and sharpness with an even smaller hole or if it's got something to do with the size of the image hitting a small sensor. hmmm

Great idea for a wintry day. The dust goes very well the image. I love the softness.

That's just too cool! I am happy that you got to experiment with the pinhole idea. And, it's autofocus too!
