This is one of the three keeper's cottages still remaining from the old Cape Fear Lighthouse on Bald Head Island, NC. The three cottages are now used as vacation rentals called "Captain Charlie's Station". That is what the old lightstation was commonly called, named after the longtime keeper, Charles Swan. He was the original keeper, when the station was built in 1903, until his retirement in 1933. The lighthouse was discontinued and demolished in 1959, but the cottages and the oil house still remain.
As soon as I took this shot on July 3, I had pretty good idea that it would be my "Best of 2007". It may seem static and boring to some, but it's one of my personal all-time favorites.
This photo won the "Landscape with Structures" blue ribbon at our county fair and was the overall color photo champion (my "Pet Portrait" photo of our rabbit was the black & white champion and overall Grand Champion...I did well in 2007). At the Maryland State fair, it took second in the the Landscape with Structures category.
I don't remember all of my processing steps, as I originally processed this in July. but I just tweaked it a little today. It probably includes, but may not be limited to:
rotate, crop, levels, shadow/highlight, brightness/contrast Noise Ninja, USM, stroke and resize.
My guess on the final score - 5.75 or so. Hopefully more, but I don't care. I really like it.

I like the perspective and the image is nice and in focus. May have liked to have seen this in landscape and add more to the left as the Muskoka chairs look like the have a great view, but we can't see it. Nice late day lighting. Good Luck. 6.
great feeling of the family summer place at the shore
I like the lines of the windows, thhe porch railing and the lattice work below the house, along w/the bricks, and the adirondack chairs..lots & lots of texture!
