I had lost this photo, but have just come back across it. I saw this photo early on in my photography development. I took alot from this photo and it really stuck in me to find patterns, rhythm and echoes of similar shapes in composition. Somehow I always try to do this is some way and I am glad I found it again. Now I put it in my favs as one of those stepping stone photos that reminds me of technique I strive for.

a gray or white border will be much nicer in this particular shot IMHO. |

Greetings from the Critique Club...
This is a nicely executed black and white. Your theme and composition work very well. Framing the amusement park inside the suspended ring is a nice touch. The only thing I don't particularly like about this composition is the proximity of the ring to the edges of the lower three borders. I personally believe that a little breathing room around the edges would add strength to the composition.
Your choice of color in the border also puzzles me a bit. Even though it's a thin line of color, it does not support any color in the image. A good border goes unnoticed. Borders that make me ask 'why' may need to be examined a little deeper. White or about any shade of gray would replace that nicely :)

This photo is excellent! I really love it. I didn't get a chance to vote on it, sadly. I would have given you a 10. I love Santa Monica. I try to go at least once every 2 months, although I only live 20 minutes away (if no traffic). There is ALWAYS traffic on the 10!!! Grr. Anyhow, great job! :) |

Nice use of natural framing, I think that is what makes the shot more unique and interesting. Good use of black and white to control the color distractions too. |

well seen and well composed. I think the color in the border distrcats from the image, but it is a very strong visual shot. I like the repetition of the circles with the ferris Wheel in the background. |

I love the way the ring frames the scene...some of the shadows in the foreground may be a little distracting... |

I would like to see the color print of this if possible. Overall, an amazing shot. If a little more of the bottom of the ring it would have been fantismo, but no one's perfect :)! |

Great point of view, B&W works really well with it. I would remove the yellow line in the border if I was picky. 9
Good luck... |

Excellent seeing to capture this one. It's always a pleasure to see an interesting scene made even more so by that imaginative circular framing. I have to say the border is not, in my opinion, such a happy choice because it seems to crowd the photograph. Still easily a 9 |

nicely composed and framed, exellent use of dof -- I think I'd like a smidge more room on the sides as it appears (could be an optical illusion) that you've cut off a bit of the circle. |

I really like this very much indeed. The repetition of shapes - the foreground circle and ferris wheel - works very well. The texture is good. The viewpoint is very unusual. I like that the foreground isn't just framing but actually as interesting as the scene it frames. Really great image, and black and white is perfect. |

I LOVE this picture. Great framing (including the yellow or gold line). Cropped perfectly. I have no idea what the round ring is, of course, but it makes a stunning "frame" for the amusement park in the background. I'd put one of these on my wall! |
