A reprise of self portrait, with apologies. MRI scan stuck to wardrobe door; lit from left by 500W halogen, small halogen held in right hand to reduce finger shadow, self timer, Canon EF 28-135mm zoom at 65mm.
Scar is just visible behind left ear - acoustic nerve severed as part of operation to remove acoustic neuroma, consequently deaf on left - hence "silenced"!
Post processing: custom white balance using separate white paper shot, digital exposure compensation +1.2, increase contrast, crop, levels, clip black to reduce tape in tlh corner (obscuring MRI data), USM, resize.

I'm not understanding your title. I can see that he doctor is pointing to the area of the inner ear but why would a surgeon intentionally perform a procedure that causes deafness? That is what the title suggests.

Nice command of DOF and lighting.

Seeing the ears add to the 'focus' the title makes. The lighting is very good. I think that the crop may have been just a little too tight

I like it. It must have been tricky to photograph the lit X-ray screen and still get good lighting on everything else.
