I wish this was an open editing challenge. I took this photo originally thinking it was and the one I edited is much much much better. Oh well. I'm expecting to see at least a few other silence of the lambs shots too. Looking forward to seeing everyone's entries to this challenge. I think it will produce a wide range of interesting images. Prediction = 5.4

Nice recreation of the movie poster. Love the blown out and use of black and white. the moth a little bit crisper would work for me

Nice emotion in subjects eyes, the cropping is interesting and the contrast is perfect for the mood, my only complaint is that the moth looks too 2-dimensional, of course you probably couldn't find a real one with the markings and what not but the intensity of the shot suffers from the prop.

Interesting take. Captivating shot!

I feel with a bit lower contrast this picture would have more of an impact, I like the silence of the Lamb outtake....

So YOU"RE the one they got the idea for that movie! ;) Nice work on the moth cutout, my only suggestion would be to use a black felt marker on the dark edges of the cutout to hide the white paper edge (bottom left of the moth's abdomen. Paper sculturists do this all the time to hid the color of the paper on the edges). Perhaps that's not the edge of the paper, but rather something you chose to include in the cutout? Either way, it makes the moth actually LOOK like it's a cutout rather than realistic, which the rest of the moth really has going for it. A small critique to be sure, but I think it would have added to the "mystique" and seamless look of a very cool photo. :)

nice!
I like the expresion on his face!
something on butterfly looks like skullhead...

maybe it would be beter without blank space on the right,
or with some border... [8]

Cute and good choice to push the contrast so high! Like your choice to go for an off-centre composition. Those eyes are just great!

great execution,

if this was more original it may have been good.

I like the takeoff on "Silence of the Lambs" here.

Cool shot!

Strong photo;here the extra sharpness of the image adds to the surreal feel. The only problem I have with this is its resemblence to a poster for a movie that I've seen before...
03/05/2004 10:29:42 AM
Love the idea, but unfortunately to much of the photo is blown out. Slightly less exposure would have been Ideal I think.
03/05/2004 06:31:34 AM
That's funny
03/04/2004 06:47:57 PM
Silence of the lambs... already been done :(

What a great idea for this challenge. I like the way you composed the shot and lightened the image/black&white, etc. I'll be curious to read your comments to find out how you did this.

What a great image. I suspect you're going to do very well.. and maybe get a ribbon for this one. I'll be interested to hear how you got that bug - if it was something you bought at the store. Great find.
03/04/2004 05:13:54 AM
I see the connection to silence, but this shot just doesn't do a thing for me. I think maybe the whole idea of a bug on a mouth is just a turn off. Technically, it's okay. A little too bright for my tastes, but I think that's the intentional effect.

Thats really funny, simply funny for being so orginal and innovative 10

very good, like the high key approach and the bug cut out ....in a brief overview of them all this would have to be my favorite thus far.....and you know what that means for all the tape over the mouth pictures.....wouldn't want to be one of them now, not me.....not if someone did a tape over a moth picture that would win hands down.! LOL!

Silence of the lambs :)
Nice pic !

Cool picture!

Even though it might be overexposed on purpose, it loses a bit of value for it in my mind. some detail is lost.
