I gave this a 9 without even realizing who it was in the picture (which would have told me who the photographer was)! I love this shot and I think the graininess adds a wonderful mood to it. Very interesting effect. It makes it look almost like a graphite pencil drawing. I admire you for taking the chance and submitting something a little more artistic even though it apparently cost you in points. I wouldn't change a thing (except maybe the title--not one of your best. ;-) ). |

Nice picture of silence and contemplation. I do like the grain, but maybe if it were just a touch less obvious (gaussian blur it some). I read that using real film grain scanned in and then overlayed on the shot makes a perfect representation. But, that would be for your own use and not a basic edit challenge |

You could get the child to be quiet long enough to take a picture without heim sleeping? Nice pic, I like the BW and grain. 8 |

Like the grain though it doesn't look real.
Nice pose, very thoughtful, great close up crop = strong composition. |

Beautiful! I would like to see more of the subject's eyes though. Don't move anything , but direct the subject to look into the camera without moving at all. I think this would allow the viewer to emotionally connect with the subject. |

Would this photo be able to convey silence without title? Grainy, but nice composition. |

You've created a haunting mood here. The position of the hand tells the "silent" story in an unusual way. I like the direction of the eyes but would like to see a some indication of light/color difference in the one in the upper right. As presented, good job. |

Obviously the graininess is intentional, and it's a risky but good idea. It really conveys a kind of mental struggling. |

Great job on the "noise". This one says silence and stillness. 9 |

The grain works alright, for me, an effect like that needs more impact though. The lighting looks like it was really good, but the grain sort of takes away from it without more contrast. 5. |
