This was taken at the Durham Ranch about 35 miles South of Gillette, Wy. This is one of the largest buffalo ranches in the United States. Buffalo are great to eat. Very lean and almost no fat. There are about 17 different coal mines in Campbell county. We have two power plants and getting 3 more. Gillette Wy. is called the Energy Capital of the Nation because of all the oil, methane and natural gas, and coal that we produce.

I LOVE the peacefulness in this photo. It makes me a little home sick.
I was born and raised in Eastern Oregon and visited a buffalo ranch often. I don't know the size of the ranch in your picture but the one in Oregon was a bit over 5000 head. We would often drive out to watch them at feeding time in the morning and evening. I took a semi tractor-trailer full of hay each morning and each evening to keep them fed.
I thought sure it would be in the top 3 this week but, I can't fault the photos that did take the first 3 places.
Congratulations.

I think a polarizer would have helped the sky color. 7 nards656

I have a fondness for buffalo and this is a great shot of 'em! you have captured WY to a tee for me with the endless horizon and subtle variations in the colors. great composition.

This is an exceptionally beautiful photograph. I get a real sense of place from this. Very nice use of dawn (or maybe dusk, but I suspect not) light to capture all the details of the fur and grass so well without too many harsh shadows. It seems as though it needs rotating slightly in the counter-clockwise direction to line up that horizon properly, but nonetheless I'm giving this 10 - lisae

Initial=excellent
Composition=great! buffalo on the left in one of the thirds, and looking right. Other animals lead eye into the photo. Shows the expansiveness of the area
Clarity (focus, details)=excellent. details extend into the distance.
Exposure=well done. colors and lighting are true front and back and into the sky
Interesting or Emotive=interesting and emotive.

I am using a this new detailed commenting method inspired by autool. (Thanks
autool!). I hope you find it more helpful than my former comments.
Thanks for submitting, and good luck! ;0)

needs a flatter horizon if possible. you've done well to be so close and then I like that there are more in the middle distance.

Wow... That's awesome that you were able to capture this. The picture, in it's entirety works very well. I like the first buffalo being as close as it is - you can imagine the size of the animal... But the rest of the picture makes you realize just how "small" it really is :) Very nice shot... 8 - JB

This is an outstanding photo. If the horizon was straight it would be a 10. I give it a 9.

Oh, give me a home...actually it looks fairly desolate. Nice shot, I hope you didn't have to get too close to them. I've been close and they can be scary. Dpz

Very nice location. The picture is great. Maybe you could've move a little to get rid of some shadows, such as the one that is cast by the bone of the big buffalo.

This is a great photo. Focus is outstanding. It's just a bit bright on the lighting, but not enough to ruin your 10. I love the subject matter. waltoml.

I love this photo... out of all the photos in the current challenge, I think that THIS one does the absolute BEST job of relaying to me what it feels like and looks like to be in 'your corner of the world'. I don't particularly like the haze off in the distance in this image. A polarizer could possibly help this, but I love the image overall... This is probably, if not definitely, my favorite for the week... great shot and keep up the excellent work... = 10 - jmsetzler

Hey.. where are the wings? ;) This is an interesting shot! You definitely get bravery points for getting that close to something that big. I love the horizon and the beautiful colors in the sky. 6
