The challenge was to create light beams under DPC rules and without using a fog/haze/smoke machine. While reading Daniel's excellent thread on light/multiple exposures (for the third time) I realized that it didn't matter to the camera how the pixels were exposed. So, the light rays are actually a piece of foam board cut into the shape of a ray. A 20 second exposure was used to properly expose the flower since it was the only object in the frame for the total exposure. The shade was exposed for the first 8 seconds (of the 20 total) and then removed from the scene. Each light beam was then added individually by exposing the foam board while moving it slightly up and down(to blur) for 4 seconds. I don't know if this technique would be useful anywhere other than DPC since, in the real world, the effect is so easy to duplicate in Photoshop. I did learn something, though, and that is what DPC is about.

Just came across this picture, and I've been studying it for a long time. Had I not read your description, I would never have noticed that the "rays" are, in fact, not coming through the blinds. Fabulous illusion.
