I like the composition and the oranges against the deep green, great detail in the flower and the bud as well. My one nitpick would be that the purple flower in the background is distracting. But lovely DoF, just enough shape in the leaves to be interesting without being distracting. |

Beautifully done, Julianne. Depth of field is a viable method (not to say one of the most effective) of isolating the subject. You used colour and tone as well so it was triple whammy, or at least double :-)
I think wow factor carried the day for the winners in this challenge. You've actually got a lot of that, but maybe it's just-another-flower-pic in the eyes of many.
Not a sscore to be sniffed at, but less than you deserve.

The flash is a bit harsh on the flower. I also think that the flower on the right and the little one way in the background are a bit distracting. |
