 Stuck in Grinnell, Iowa on business I stupidly took my 2 wheel drive rental car (rear wheel drive at that) up and down iced over country roads until I happened upon this barn. It was 10 degrees F and there was a strong wind so I sat up the tripod, started the exposure then hopped back into the warm car until it was done, recomposed, tweaked exposure time and repeated until I decided the barn was just too flat. To fix it I walked up to the barn with my flash and painted it and the silo behind it. By the time I got the shot (around midnight) my camera and I were both frozen solid. It ended up being a 165 second exposure. I can only assume the red in the cloud is from the remote farm's security lights.

It feels almost surreal. How long did you expose this for the stars to move that much> Great image!

I wish the front of the barn were lit up. With such a long exposure, perhaps this could have been done with a flashlight?
