 THE IMAGE: I had this idea when I woke up in the morning of the deadline. Having my Mondays off, I went to the office supplies, picked up the box and bits and pieces I needed, set up the shot in natural light in my daughter's room, plonked the dog in the box, filled it with filler, and took heaps of shots ranging from the dog looking into the camera, to ones like this. I felt this was the best of the bunch as it was cute.

THE EDIT: Levels, colour balance, did a bit of dodge, burn, blur, noise ninja, USM...not in that order. Decided to go selective desat at the end...not sure if it was the right move.

PREDICTION: I am hoping the 'cute factor' will win the hearts of the animal lovers on dpc. Perhaps some will see it as cruel to send a dog in a box, so I might lose their vote. Some might prefer if the dog was looking into the camera. Perhaps a 6.2???

POST: Well I don't know what happened as I was 6.9359 within the last minute...anyhow, this did better than I expected in the end, although I was hoping for a ribbon...I have had 5 top 10's in the last 7 challenges including two fourth placements...so close.

Forgetting the fact that your model is ridiculously cute, this is a glorious photo. I love the monochrome and red colour palette but the perspective and context (relevant but not too cluttered) make it a simple but incredibly effective shot. The only thing stopping me from rating it 10 is that it doesn't pass the "i'd hang it on my wall test" - but that's personal taste and not your photo or interpretation. No doubt there's some miserable and clueless voters who will vote this 4 or less...but it's an outstanding shot both in composition and technically. Well done.

Aww cute. The highlights are blown, and the desat makes the dog look a little unnatural, and he/she blends into the packing a little. I'd like to see just a little colour left in the fur. I like the composition
