Last night, the sky lit up with northern lights. While they usually are green around here, this time they were kinda orange and mixed nicely with the city lights in the distance. It went on for a long time.

I tried different exposures to get it right and ended up freezing my right thumb because it was so cold (-22C or -5F, even less than that with the wind chill factor). I am used to a plastic body on my camera and the new one is magnesium... Got to buy myself better gloves if I want to keep taking pictures in winter around here!

Wow this is really nice, it almost looks like the city lights are extending that high into the sky. Beautiful.

You're absolutely insane for going out in that weather. But you've captured a beautiful night - the lights of the city do blend nicely with the Aurora.

OMG caroline this is so beautiful .. i didnt know that canada got the northern lights .. there are a couple of ppl in dpc who live in iceland and they get the most amazing skies .. especially that green you mentioned ..
and about the cold .. i doubt that my obsession with photography would ever get to the point of being out in -22C and taking photographs ... just the hassle of having to protect your camera and stuff would be enough to put me off .. i'm an extremely lazy buggar .. !!
we just dont get temperatures that cold .. i've got some circulation problems and when its like 12C and i'm walking on the firetrail my fingers start tingling .. it just about hurts my teeth when i draw in a breath and my ears feel like they're gonna drop off .. can you imagine me where you live ??? !!! ...
i spose its also a matter of wot you are used to .. but i dont think i could ever get used to those temps .. lucky i live in australia !!! ..
