Challenge: Fire (Advanced Editing I)
Camera: Nikon Coolpix 5000
Location: Richmond, Callifornia
Date: Feb 24, 2004
Aperture: F 4.8
Shutter: 1/4 sec
Galleries: Interior, Digital Art
Date Uploaded: Feb 25, 2004

Taken with ambient light to give the flames more brightness, used PSP 8 filters (chrome and one step enhance) to exaggerate the sense of heat. Used a twirl filter on the center discoloration of the burner to give it more movement. Cropped very slightly and resized in PhotoShop.

GAS BURNER COLLECTION

I really like this for the colors and overall effect. It is abstract, and yet it is easy to identify what it is. I wish I could say something more "enlightening", bit I liked it and gave it a 9 when I voted on it.

This ought to have done much better. Metal behaves like this in the presence of a flame and it is perfectly captured by this image. Beautiful still!

Well done, I usually don't like effects like this but you pulled this one off. Nice.

Interesting composition. The angle that you shot the subject at makes it quite dynamic and abstract. The swirling center of the burner is a great focal point for your eyes. I like the golden colors that you were able to create. "8"

Nice effect; I like it. Except for the large gray area.

IMHO this has gone beyond the boundaries of photographic integrity. I do not and probably never will appreciate these shots. Going within the guidelines of the rules, I can not give you a very high score.

Looks somewhat interesting, and even appears like you had a nice blue flame originally too. I'm not against digital art, but I think in a photography contest there should be more of a photograph. Sorry.

I just had a hard time thinking about this as a photo, though I really like it as an artsy image.

This might have been a nice photo at one time. I like the angle of the composition and the positioning of the burner in the frame, but the filter effects just don't do it for me.

Lighting and composition are very good but many voters will think this is closer to digital art then digital photography.

This is one of the most effective uses of advanced editing I've seen on this site. The image manages to convey more about the essential thermodynamics of a gas ring than it would unedited. the fluidity, colouration and textures are awesome and the flames are magical. I predict a ribbon. 10

Nice capture. Looks like there might have been some photoshopping, which I wonder if you arent getting slammed for...but I like this image and what you have done with it very much

A daring image with such a strong effect, but I like it. I would crop away the lower part up to the first ring.
