Challenge: Conflict (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Olympus C-3030Z
Location: Home
Date: Feb 20, 2004
Date Uploaded: Feb 24, 2004

I had a very cheap chess set to work with, so I had to go for a back lit shot to hide the quality from the camera. I converted it to black and white because I felt it made the shot look more powerful.

I shot it on a tripod at 1/10 of a second with aperture at f2.8
Adjusted the exposure bias to -2.00
Focal length was 19.10mm
Flash was off
ISO was 100

Interesting take on the challenge, great composition, POV and DOF. Nice choice of B&W.

To narrow of a shot. Would have looked better if it was wider.

Obvious photographic quality, Highly print worthy, good lightning, good DOF. One of the best chess shot in this challenge but still, another chess shot (7)

Very nice expression of conflict, and the best of the chess shots. Unusual perspective, good depth of field and composition. The pawn is a little distracting and the light is harsh, but I like that the knight is facing the king. 8

This is taken from a great perspective. Most chess shots seem very much the same, but not this one... much more original. :)

Cool how the opposite king/queen (never play chess) looks so large. Well composed. You can see the fear on the mouth of the horse somehow. :)

Love the point of view here, like a face-off at high noon. 7

We see A LOT of chess photos--this one, however, has a unique and creative viewpoint. I like it! 7

You may suffer in the voting because you have chosen a common subject, but you have created a very good image.

Good chess picture. Could the knight in the foreground have been sharpened more?
