Hello from the Critique Club:

Since I couldn̢۪t vote in this challenge, this is the first time I̢۪ve had a chance to look at your image. My first impression was that this was a nice image of a car and that it would probably score around a 5. What really hurt your score IMHO is that the background in this image does not look like a car ad. Add to the less than flattering background, the car needs more space around it to give the impression that you could buy this car and drive off with it if so desired. I like your post processing and I think it would have worked with the appropriate background. Overall, the lack of a car ad feel to this image made it easy for the voter to give it a 5 and move on, as shown by the voting histogram where almost half of your votes are 5.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions regarding this critique.

Tim

Lovely car, and I like the angled composition. I might prefer less DOF so the background is blurred out, and a bit faster shutter so the top of the roof isn't so blindingly white. Tough to expose for a dark car with bright sunlight, though.

cool but a bit plain

This is a nice car. Clean, shiny. Nice photo technically but the bench and the fences in the background are killing me. You put this car in any empty parking lot, or a field, you'd get more points :/

Nice car, but not much more than a snapshot, the glare on the hood and roof and the reflections on the window and hood detract from the image, and the background doesn't do anything to improve the shot. 4

Nice wax job! And the rims sparkle and shine.

Really good shot - it looks like a photo you might see in a newspaper in the auto section.

Very snapshotty. This would of benefitted from being in a better envvironment. Also it is cropped incredibly tightly. average.

off the beaten path?! HAHAHAHAHA, yeah right...

To me the BG is a bit distracting. Also the tight crop to the car makes the image uncomfortable.

The background spoils this as does the blow out on the roof.

Too many distracting elements in this composition. Cras are notoriously hard to photograph well to be able to have the focus be on them. A bit cooked on the top.

Not sure about the border nor the the angle. When reading up on car photography before doing the challenge myself, the recommendation was to avoid shooting from eye level and aim to go for about wheel height with a wide angle lens. This seems higher than eye level and I'm not sure it works all that well. The cropping is very tight and you have quite a distracting background. Quite a lot of glare from the roof too.

There's just too much light off the back of the car, and the reflection of the sky is too bright. I love the car though. I had to sell my RX7 5 years ago and move on to a family car. :(

Nice car on great technical shoot. I find the back ground a little dull in comparison to the vehicle. Other than that a believable car ad. IMHO -7-

nice car...perhaps it lacks creativity...more of a snapshot of a parked car here...6
