I predict this will not do well. The DPC-crowd doesn't like this: too dark, perspective distortion, tilted verticals, you name it. Expecting to score below 5 here. So why submit it? I like it. One or two viewers might like it. That should do it.

The title is a sub-title of a song by tool, has nothing to do with anything (which is a 'lyric' by the Pixies). It just sounds nice. Any resemblence with people named Hofmann or similar is purely coincedence. :P

I like this shot very much. But I like dark things, this one speaks to me.

Post Challenge:

Thanks all for the great comments. I agree with the comments on the reddish gray, shouldn´t have done that. It is also true that there is some pixelation near my face. That wall isn´t even, and with resizing came the pixelation. I should have taken care of it in PP.

I was right about the crowds not loving this, but I am surprised to see there´s still quite a number of people that actually like this shot. I also liked the fact that I left people in wonder with the nonsense title. :P

I think you did a nice job with this - I voted it a 7. I like the lighting and how the guy seems exhausted from reading. As for non-vertical verticals, the main effect to me is to make it look more ominous, as the bookshelf seems to be about to fall over on him. Only you can decide if you like that or not.

Are you talking about Albert Hofmann, inventer of LSD? I like your pose here, you really appear 'sick of reading' or sick of other things. Nice moody feeling here. BB

I love how my eye is led to that little corner of despair.

Nice photo, nice idea. I would do b&w instead of red-ish gray, and also I would show myself more, you are sitting too close to edge of the photo. also I would keep bookshelf a bit darker on top right corner. Nice photo overall :)

I thought this was intriguing--the shaft of light really works for me, and the title is evocative in a good way. But I'm a sucker for Narrative Tease...

It's all his fault.

No, Hofmann's innocent! It Ruddiger you need to go after.
Unless it's the other Hofmann you mean, inventor of LSD.

Had to google Hoffman; am assuming you are referencing the one who created LSD. Not a terribly trippy picture, though. You appear to be holding a letter and maybe sunk down in despair over its contents, but there's an awful lot of bookcase and that must be there for a reason ... maybe I found the wrong Hoffman to make sense of this?

cool perspective shot - but there is some unusual pixelation issues on your face that are distracting

Looks like you have been busy. I think this is a great idea, but im sure many are thinking its not a portrait. But if this is who you are, its a portrait. Nice work.

I love the composition but personally I don't like the toning - I think it might work better as a black and white without the red cast.
