Hey! Much thanks for all the comments. This one smashes my record for comments received on a photo. Must admit, I was quite pleased.

To answer some questions:

The prey was a rabbit. I took about 30 shots of this scene, and some show unmistakable rabbit-like qualities in that mess (the hawk was quite set on his dinner... he was there for a good 15 minutes)

I did not bait the predator. Although I don't know if he killed it himself, he was already eating when I arrived. This hawk has apparently been loitering about the office complex for some time now. Never saw him this close before though.

The shot is indeed "in the wild" although it's not really 'wild' when you consider it's on a fairly well travelled street. To get the shot, I used my Sigma 70-300mm AF lens. I was about 25 metres from the bird at the time I took the shot. Amazingly, it was hand held - I didn't have my tripod with me. Seems I have a steadier grasp than I thought. :)

Thanks again, all!

If it's predator vs prey, I put my money on the big bird.... This is an awesome shot! Is it really in the wild? If so I wanna know what lens you used. This is one of the best (presumably) long lens shots I've seen in a LONG time!

Since the bird is looking off to the right of the picture, I think you chose the perfect composition :)

would be nice if the bird and prey was a bit brighter (as opposed to being the darkest thing in the pic). nice otherwise.
