Galleries: Self Portrait
Date Uploaded: Dec 1, 2007

Inspired by the witch hag in Snow White of course. A fun self portrait - always more interesting to be the villian than the princess. I cut up an old pair of false eyelashes to make my scary hairy moles (sadly the best one is pretty much hidden in the shadows - I'm afraid the one on my nose looks more like a fly!). This was fun and I hope it scores well above my average.

Shot in RAW. RAW conversions. Elements - Selective color, burning/dodging, sat/desat, USM, neat image, crop, levels, blur, minor cloning, vigniette, save for web.

You definitely should have ribboned with this shot - if it hadn't been for the 24 people that voted this image 5 or less (which is completely unreasonable under any circumstance or opinion) then it probably would have. Gonna favourite it now just to prove a point! FWIW I voted this a 10.

Excellent for sure! Lighting, Tones and crispness is an A+. Choice of model is good too, even the apple looks good, I feel like I can grab it as if her hand is coming out of my monitor.

I love this shot. The lighting is fantastic. The pop of the eyes is excellent, the bright spot on the apple is wonderful. The shadows on the left side (her right) again right on the mark. The only thing that I see that I am not sure about is the dark spot on the nose. My guess is that is supposed to be a hairy wart, but it steals my attention more than it adds to the shot. Still a spectacular shot and wart or no it does not impact my excellent score on this wonderful shot.

Ahhhhh - perfect! Love it!

Love the fingers around the apple, nice and simple concept. On the composition side of things, could have done with getting rid of some of the empty space of the left to centre up the subject a bit more.

Really well done! I love the extra touches, like the wart with the hair :-) 8.

Fan-flipping-tastic!!! Perfect in every way to these eyes and this mind. The lighting, colour palette, composition, interpretation...even the expression on the model's face. Outstanding.

Cool shot. The lighting and makeup are great as is your editing. I'm wondering though why you didn't finish this off with long nails. That's the one part of the shot that seems incomplete.
