 I am the PORTUGUESE MAN OF WAR!! Minus the jelly fish thing. :P I saw this same shot done with a little boy a while back and always wanted to try it. This gave me a perfect time to. I wanted to do this for the complementary colors challenge but didn't have the time. All the facepaint and makeup is done by my wife. Thank goodness for her or I wouldn't have a hobby. After the 2 hours of painting we went to the basement where my setup was. I had her sit down on the chair and lit her face with one spotlight that was covered with wax paper. Adjusted the aperature and shutter speed and all settings. Then went over and sat down, while she hit the shutter for me. At first there was a bit of a glare off the face paint, so she powdered me. She was having a blast putting lipstick and powder on me. So I am glad she had fun. After about 5 shots, I saw the one I liked and we put it on the computer.

I really love family traditions and their heritages. I feel privledged to have such a loving family and such a history behind the 'Matos' name. We are a very passionate and loving family and I am extremely happy to carry on the name.

As for a little piece of knowlege about the Portuguese flag, The Portuguese flag displays three important symbols: the colors of the field, the armillary sphere and the national shield (these two make up the coat of arms).

Converted to Jpeg
USM, Dodge and Burn, Heal Around the Eyes
Crop, New Layer Via Copy, Run Neat Image, Layer Mask, and brought back sharpness of eyes, and symbol. Repeated last step. Sharpened, Selective Color on Reds, Save for Web

9 - Good self portrait. Shows off your eyes well. Wish the emblem was a little less dominant, but obviously a personal element. Good crop and composition. Up to 9 from 8.

My ex-wife from there, so I am giving you 1...

Then again, let’s talk about the photo, not the country. I think preparation is excellent. The positioning on the frame is very good. Sharp and nice photo with good message. Overall good photo :)

If I saw the face of Jose Saramago I'd think Viva Portugal!, not that Portugal has anything to do with it, but just for the hell of it. Now, If I think that, I'd also shout, and when I shout I definitely don't look so calm.
I don't care about that guy that plays for Manchester Un., but it seems that you're a good fan.

LOL. I had a similar idea for this challenge, but my title was Viva Italia. I like the fade to darkness on the left and the eyes look great.

Great SP (of course it helps having a flag with complimentary colours lol). Superb shot and I love the way you have set up the lighting so that the green of the flag bleeds into blackness whilst keeping the symbol so clear and bright. This looks like it should have been a poster advertisng the European Championships in Portugal
