Used a texture overlay from philup to enhance the background along with a slight bit on his face.

Editing details - I placed a texture layer on top of my base image. I can't remember what blending mode I used - but I think it was overlay. I tweaked that layers colors and levels to get the contrast and color I wanted. I may have reduced the opacity on that layer some too - cant remember how much though.

Now the texture went over his face so I masked out his face from the texture to 95% and then did a light gaussian blur on the mask to soften the edges. I did some burning on the cracks of the texture to darken them up. Flattened my layer and added a vignette. I may have done some other minor tweaks but nothign that would cause a major change to the effect here.

Welcome to the group great to have you here look forward to more images and comments from you :) Thanks for the editing steps I really appreciate it when people take the time to post as I do a lot of learning from them ;) I'm sorry I have to agree with Ursula on this one it looks like the texture has just been plonked there ( in an very masterly way! ) and does'nt seem to relate to the rest of the photo there's no context for it. I only say this as I have observed in the past you are a big boy who can take it!. Of course it is just my opinion and may mean squat!

Nice choice of textures to complement the "spooky" spider ring.

He, he, wait till they grow up a bit more - they won't want to pose for you anymore :)))))

You certainly managed to keep the "texture" only on the background, and it's a beautiful texture and photo. However, to my eyes (you're going to hate me), it has a sort of "pasted on" look that doesn't quite work here. But then, what do I know :)

I love this impish, big-headed kid! He's got mischief written all over him!

Lighting is wonderful! Expression is perfect! Texture contrasts nicely with the smoothness and warm tones of his skin. Well done!

sure it belongs!! I want to say "I'm goin' t' punch you out" even though he's only showing the spider ring. LOL With the harsh background, it takes on a different feel than the original (which I love)
