Woot!!! Thanks, you guys! Getting a top 10 shot in this really tough challenge is a big honour (a lot of great shots in there).

David david_c wrote he’d like to see my studio set-up. Unfortunately, I don’t have a studio, the kitchen has to do. My set-up is nearly always the same: I sit a piece of board or sheet of glass on four plastic beakers to get the right height so my back doesn’t break with all the bending down to take the shot.
Set my flashes up. SB800 on a small tripod. Slave flash balanced on a coffee mug. Piece of white or coloured boarding at the back of the set-up so the kitchen wall tiles aren’t visible… that’s it.
For water shots I (obviously) use a tripod. For the rest of the shots (like this one, for example) I handhold the camera. This lets me check out the various angles better).

Gorgeous. Extremely well lit. I love the detailed "lines" in the large feather contrasted with the fuzzy--yet sharp--smaller feather. This would make a great screen saver (and of course fabulous print).

Yay! A non-depressing image in this challenge! Great detail in the feathers, and the reflection is awesome. a bit too much of the OOF part in the top left perhaps, but overall a great shot. 8

Great reflection and subject. I like the tone here, but recently saw a similar picture in a bluish tone and it made it so classy. Just wondering if you tried that tone as well. Great composition thought and DOF. Nice work.
