Lack of focus hurts this. Greater DOF would have helped. And the lighting is flat, not dramatic. Does make me hungry.

Normally, this lighting would strike me as too harsh for food, but it works here and still makes me hungry!

I think your DOF is too shallow for your purpose and it seems like you tried to save it using (too much) USM. Furthermore, I can hardly call this dramatic lighting (3)

The arrangement looks too staged, especially the placement of the knife. DOF is a bit shallow, had preferred to have at least a part of the mushroom sauce in focus. Your lighting is very good, considered you had only one light source. Composition works, but as mentioned, I had placed the knife the other way round. Don't think, the black background helps the image, the kitchen floor or the kitchen counter had given the image a more realistic feel.

As a vegetarian I believe there should be less focus on the meat
