It's the inside underneath of a bog-standard open cup mushroom - the simplistic title is out of fear of the 'I don't know what this is' comments - not that it'll prevent them, I'm sure.

I had hoped to shoot a peach for this challenge, but damned if I could find one with the exact shape I wanted ... I'll save that for another challenge, perhaps.

Again, it returns to a common theme on my work of finding the extraordinary in the mundane (the next challenge might have been made for me). The fan of the membranes here reminds me of an electron microscope image, but it's nowhere near that close. A whole landscape of its own.

Birghtness/contrast and levels to get the balance of light (which was originally simply indirect daylight), cropped, re-sized, USM, bordered.

I've looked and looked, and I can't find a previous shot of this subject on dpc ... yet these are in every supermarket ... right under your eyes :-)

looks like a portabella to me. 3.50 to 6.00 a lb.
marinate in wine, grill and enjoy.

The 5400 is capable of taking decent shots for sure - though I have major reservations about it after nine months with it. If I had the money again, I wouldn't buy it again, I don't think.

Thanks to the rapid reactions of the cite guys, it's up now :-) Approx three hours from upload to approval - just in case anyone was thinking this was sarcastic.

Open Cap Mushroom is exemplary, but highest complements for your success... to review every picture of the challenge. Every sentence is thoughtful! A daunting task and hard work, but everyone who received your words was rewarded with insight and encouragement. Each one is a fine model of an accomplished short critique writing style - worthy to study & emulate. Congratulations for your ribbon!

Ed,
Congratulations!
I loved this one and rated it as one of my highest.
What I like most is that it has an optical illusion to it. If you move your eye around in a circle around the outside, clockwise or counter, it seems to be bursting out from the page.
Great job!
Cheers....Martin

I didn't have time to look at most entries in this challenge. This is wonderful, Ed and a well deserved ribbon. And I adore 'shrooms. Mmm mmmm! I love the delicate detail of the gill part next to the sculpuresque and solid stem.

This is the 365th day I've been submitting to dpchallenge - and a very nice way to celebrate the anniversary; thanks to all who voted. Also feels like a consolation for all that time spent commenting :-) Special thanks to everyone else who even tried to do that, but who hasn't got the consolation.

With so many entries in this challenge and a limited schedule to vote (if I'm gonna shoot anything at all for myself) I didn't get to go through all 400+ entries. This however was defiinately my favorite of the ones I got to see though! Congrats and well done. When's it gonna be a print?

Yum. You did well with light control. I think maybe some burn tool along the dark lines would help them to pop a bit. Still a really good entry for this challenge. Good luck.

Very cool! Wonderful lighting. My only complaint is that the stem appears to be a touch soft on focus. Love the crop. I'd have to say best of show so far...
