very nice and funny guy, take a look at his website: www.hannesmuik.com , there you can find more photos I've taken of him in the "fotogalerie"-"portraits".

resized, desaturated, unsharp mask, curves, canvas size = frame. that's it. we had lots of fun while we took this and all the other pictures, you can also find some more of them at my own website www.isabell-schatz.com

I used a ringlight standing in front of him, a bit from above.

you should have called it "cotton mouth" like this killer bitch from "kill bill"...
but nice effort, i didn't vote in this challenge unfortunately, ringlights rule! ;)
i think it's a bit annoying that your subject is not exactly in the middle of the frame because IMO in these symmetric compositions that's important to take care of.
anyways, cool shot! :)

Flat lighting is not dramatic.

nice, however generally I am not a very big fan of ringlights. the sweater reminds me one of the best Anne Leibovitz's photos of Susan Zontag

The ring flash makes him look slightly demonic.

great depth of field, but i wish the point of focus was on his eyes and not the ridge of the eyebrow/tip of the nose.

Very good but I notice it's not centred and there's an odd shape at the lower left. Yes -I'm being picky.

To me, this is the opposite of dramatic lighting (4)

Great eyes and an interesting approach. Reminds me of "Mort" from the "Bazooka Joe" bubblegum comics.

well why not, if you're only allowed one light, might as well make it a ring flash! Nice portrait, like the shallow DOF and the setup in general

has all the makings of a winner, but lacks just that last little bit. good bw, good composition. the blacks are perhaps too black. dont like the blob on the bottom left as it disturbs the symmetry. 7
