We started this shoot by putting little reindeer antlers on top of her head, but I didn't think that would do so well here in the challenge so I went with this entry. This poor girl has been tortured with the camera since I got my new 85mm f1.8 I found that the sunroom windows on our home make a good natural lightsource, that mimics an artificial lightsource, for portraits. They have white vertical blinds which were closed during this shot. Even with them being closed though, the lighting is a little harsh as the late morning sun was peering through. The windows face south, and we are definately getting a southern sun right now.
PP was pretty simple. I opened in DPP, set the picture style to faithful, then lowered the brightness a bit, increased the contrast by 1, the saturation by 2, cropped it, and then sent it to Photoshop. I then adjusted the midtones with a levels adjustment layer, added a little saturation with an adjustment layer, then flattened the image and used Apply Image 'Soft Light' at 30%. I resized, used Smart Sharpen, and then added the small border followed by save for web.
Oh yeah, one more thing, if you don't have an 85mm and want one, this 85mm F1.8 lens is awesome. I have applied very little sharpening to the images I have taken and they look beautiful! I should have purchased this lens 2 years ago! |

a 9+ when sharp from front to back. but a great motif, hope you have the chance to present some more of that in the future. |

This looks like it was taken by a woman. Nice picture - trust that the light was artificial and not coming in through a window. |

Sorry but the catch light in the eye appears to be window light. The challenge description calls for artifical light. A very nice image overall. |
