Trying to do the highkey thing. 1xstrobe to blow background (optical trigger), 1xlight high-left into brolly (radio trigger). Could not get the hair-light to fire with these ^%#$ fleebay radio strobes.... I think that would have helped a fair bit on the flatness (also want to try some blue gel when I get that working to have some colour behind but not sure untill I see that).

The costume comes with a mask but wanted this to be a portrait, so did not use it in this image. Believe it or not, the comic matching was not my idea (as much as I would like to take credit for the obvious).... he keep carrying it around with him, so figured it made a nice prop.

PS - Nothing special (and it will no doubt score that way).... bit of sat and crop square.

surfdabbler addressed the issue of "hi-key" - I'd find you some examples but I can't think of any specific ones at the moment. The pure white featureless background has it's uses - this would be a very easy shot to add a background of your choice to, for instance. It would be quite easy using the extraction tool (which I suck at using, but don't let that deter you) to separate out just the boy, then paste him on a background shot. You'd want to have the background have suitable, similar lighting. A gothic city view might work nicely!

Very clean photo rob! Way to use that 50mm 1.4. (my son was spiderman this year too.) The aperture you chose really worked well.

The high-key background I don't think works with this subject. He's brightly coloured, and normally lit - definitely not a high-key subject, so perhaps a low-key background would work better. It would also allow more dramatic lighting on Spiderman which might be more fitting to the role. With a high-key background, you are probably just washing the whole room with reflected light, so dramatic lighting is going to be difficult. Another interesting idea would be to try to recreate the cover shot, or one of the other pictures from the story.

Back to your shot, there is something funny happening with his chin. Has he got it tucked inside the shirt or something, or maybe it is an editing mistake?

Well-lit and definitely telling a story here, but the white background feels off, like he should have OOF library shelves in the background or something to give the story context.

Cute pose but not fond of the background, it looks like you just erased it all and now the boy looks cut and pasted onto nothing.
