well.. i am thinking a lot of people here are out of their minds. I spent a bit of time planning this picture and although I wasnt expecting to win I really didnt think it deserved to place below some of the other pictures on this contest. there is certainly something fishy going on with the voting on this site. 520 entries and only 115 votes and 154 views. oh well.

Doesn't work for me, feels too contrived. Selective desat is a technique that many people use when the composition feels too cluttered, and I feel that may be the case here. I heavily dislike the magenta/purple. The part of the photo I do like is the red fringe at the top with the bells, and this is clumsily half included in the shot and out of focus. There is bad haloing around the horse and pole, as if you blurred everything else in Photoshop. Perhaps too much time spent staring at this in Photoshop has affected your judgement!

A very good choice for desat. Kind of a magical slice out of a black and white world.
