Couple of things about this shot that I would have done differently.
First I think what's really hurting you here is the composition. It seems that this is a beautiful Maple tree leaf but I'm really left trying to figure that out on my own. Perhaps a top down shot at it to show off it's detail.
Second, the stool or wood that you've chosen to lay it on is distracting. The line pulls my eye back toward the tree trunk and blown out sky. Again I would suggest centering the leaf in the center of the stool / table and contrast the leaf with the wood grain.
Finally, your image has nice saturation and contrast, you're on the right track by trying different angels and perspectives stay with that. A couple of minor tweaks and you'll be right there in the running.
