 I had been taking pool shots before I found out about the challenge. My favorite of them was very similar to this one, but with the one and eight balls in opposite places (for reasons due to the nature of the image when in color). So, I switched them around for this shot and put the camera a little closer. I was trying to chose the right pocket to get the best reflections and when I saw the one with the window I thought it was perfect. The reason behind the photo (and the explaination of the title for those that didn't get it), is that I am a big fan of jump shots and trick shots but my father doesn't like me to do them because the pool table is so close to his window and he doesn't want it to break. Luckily I didn't break the window. I came close to breaking the camera once though. And yes, I made the shot. I make it about 90% of the time. I set the timer and put it in burst mode. I have some long exposures and some animated gifs as well. I will most likely post some of the other shots in the next day or two. Thanks for all the feedback and my first ribbon. I am honored to receive it.

Excellent picture!

PS: A shot like that would be a foul if you follow the international eight ball rules. You aren't allowed to shot below the middle of the ball. But as a photo it's simply perfect. ;-)

Do you have the EXIF for this one? What shutterspeed/aperture settings were you using?

Window breaks, I'd be worried about the camera breaking if that shot isn't perfect, which it looks like it is. :) Great shot and well deserved ribbon!!

Appears to me, that would be considered an illegal jump shot. Need to come down on the cue, rather than scooping it. :-)

About the photo: Great shot. I like the angle, lighting, DOF, reflection on the 8 ball...well, actually everything about it. This will probably be in the top 3 this week.

Beautiful. Love the sharpness and the composition. The more I look at it, the more I'm distracted by what appears to be a ball hovering in mid-air by what should be the shooter's right hand. ?? If you re-shot it without that, it would be an easy 10. With it, it's a 7 - I can't quit looking at that circle, and the fact that the highlights are blown out on it are even more distracting.

I wish that reflection wasn't in the 8-ball. However, I still like this shot a lot. 8 The big question: "Did it go in"?

Very well composed. almost too creative. very nice job on that, it seems like a color turned black and white deal with too many shades of gray and lacking strong contrast- the blacks don't seem "black enough" and that is the challenge, no? but hell of a shot nonetheless.

There's a lot to like here. Great focus, contrast and depth of field. Composition excellent. Lot of interest points: shooter's expression, cue ball movement, line of sight, 8 ball precariously positioned, window reflection on 8 ball, etc. Well done.

Who is the Willy Masconi? Why not a combination shot rather than the jump ball? This shot has a number of things going for it. . . and they are all very, very good. Simple, crisp and clear with enough depth of field to bring my attention to the eight ball immediately. BOL I do have a serious question. What is the surface of the table? It doesn't look like the tradition felt.
